Don't know who might still be watching this Journal It's been nearly 3 months since I've posted anything here. However for those who are still reading it, here is the Lastest news... I am opening a comicbook shop in the next town over. I thought I'd share this with you all. This my business card for my business. I replaced the photo below with a portrait that was drawn by George Perez. I'm interested in knowing what you all think. Below is the photo version and the illustrated version.

Just another project I hope to get finished

I am customizing a Kingdom Come Superman action Figure into The main Character in my Own Comic Book. The character is based on myself loosely. Yes I know my conceit knows no bounds. LOL
Anyway just thought I's share this with you.

I added a touch of red to the card to give him an option. I've done all but one design of the cards for this shop. He asked for a Villian card this time around.

Richardo Montalban Passes away at 88

This manwas the epitome of Cool and Sauve. From Khan Noonian Singh on Star Trek, to the Indians he played in the old westerns(Non-PC but that's what they were labeled as back then) to Guitierrez in Freakazoid, to Mr. Rourke on Fantasy Island, to the many many other roles he played throughout his carreer, I never saw a single part that he didn't command an awesome presence onscreen. He will be missed. Vija Con Dios my friend.

'Jurassic Park' Author Michael Crichton Dies at 66

I've seen much more of his work on screen than I have read it, which means that I've missed a bit of his self that is in every author's work.

(Nov. 5) -- Author Michael Crichton, who had a stretch of best-sellers with 'The Andromeda Strain,' 'Jurassic Park' and 'Disclosure,' has died at 66.
The author's Web site said Crichton passed away "after a courageous and private battle against cancer."
His site continues: "While the world knew him as a great story teller that challenged our preconceived notions about the world around us -- and entertained us all while doing so -- his wife Sherri, daughter Taylor, family and friends knew Michael Crichton as a devoted husband, loving father and generous friend who inspired each of us to strive to see the wonders of our world through new eyes. He did this with a wry sense of humor that those who were privileged to know him personally will never forget."
"Through his books, Michael Crichton served as an inspiration to students of all ages, challenged scientists in many fields, and illuminated the mysteries of the world in a way we could all understand. He will be profoundly missed by those whose lives he touched, but he leaves behind the greatest gifts of a thirst for knowledge, the desire to understand, and the wisdom to use our minds to better our world."
According to Wikipedia, Crichton sold over 150 million books worldwide. Some of his other smash titles which combined the worlds of medicine and science fiction include 'The Andromeda Strain,' 'Coma,' Sphere' and 'Congo.'
Crichton's medical background -- he was a graduate of Harvard Medical School -- wound up being a foundation of his science-based dramas. It also served him well for the TV hit 'ER,' which he created in 1994. Crichton received an Emmy for the show in 1996.
'ER,' which went on to be TV's highest-rated show, was co-produced by Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment. Spielberg directed the big screen adaptation of 'Jurassic Park' as well as its sequel, 'The Lost World.'

bit of trivia

Tim Daly is perhaps best known for the role of Joe Hackett on the TV series "Wings" (1990). He beat out Kevin Conroy for the part. He later worked with Conroy on the animated "Superman" (1996) and "Batman" (1992) series

Look up the date of your birthday in Wikipedia. From the date page, pick three interesting historical events that occurred on that date, two births, and one death.

Events:
1536 - Anne Boleyn, the second wife of Henry VIII of England, is beheaded for adultery, treason, and incest.

1848 - Mexican-American War: Mexico ratifies the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo thus ending the war and ceding California, Nevada, Utah and parts of five other modern-day U.S. states to the United States for $15 million USD

1962 - A birthday salute to U.S. President John F. Kennedy takes place at Madison Square Garden, New York City. The highlight is Marilyn Monroe's infamous rendition of Happy Birthday.

Births: (I know it said 2 but I found these too interesting not to mention)
1890 - Ho Chi Minh, Vietnamese leader (d. 1969)

1925 - Malcolm X, American civil rights activist (d. 1965)

1944 - Peter Mayhew, British-American actor (Chewbacca)

1945 - Pete Townshend, English musician (The Who)

1946 - André the Giant, French professional wrestler (d. 1993)

Death:
(honorable mention)1965 - Tui Malila, world's oldest tortoise (b. 1773 or 1777)

1994 - Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, First Lady of the United States (b. 1929)

Oh well maybe next election

Well I could tell, by the look on her face when i picked the Kids up today, Diana didn't win the vote for school Vice-President. She was heart broken but, I told her at least she had the nerve and incentive to run. out of a 4th and 5th grade student body of approximately 250-300, only about 10 students ran for School president and vice president. So she held her head up and moved on. I of course gave her the parent speech "there's always next election" which she took to heart. She's gonna put alot of campaigning into next year's election. So Proud of her for trying, especially given how bashful she is. What a trooper!

Random pic and a fic

*Please forgive the horrible coloring job, tried my Markers and it lost some of the detail*

Title: Amazing Ultron
Characters: The Avengers, Ultron, Amazo mentioned
Rating: PG
Continuity: AU ramdom crack
Disclaimer: I lay no claim to any of these Characters; Owned by Marvel and DC
Notes: got this idea while working at the local Comic Shop today.

Hank Pym struggles to get to his feet. Rubbing his eyes and squinting to try and focus through the Smoke and dust of the explosion. He sees the unmistakable image of his attacker and instinctively shrinks to minimum level. Once he finds shelter beneath the lab table he signals the Avengers with a priority alert code U.

“Come now, Father.” The mechanical voice bellows, “I only want you to witness my greatest and final victory. I have scoured the Multiverse to find the mechanism for the down fall of your teammates. And found it I have. Please Father, don’t make this harder than it has to be.”

A voice from behind the robot vociferates, “Stand thee down villain!”

“Ah the thunder god and the rest of the Avengers,” Ultron says with a hint of mechanical disdain in his voice, “Thank you for calling them, Father, it will save me the trouble of hunting them down.”

“You heard him Ultron,” Captain America barks authoritatively, “you keep coming back and we keep putting you down. Let’s end this before it escalates, shall we?”

“Oh, we shall.” Ultron responds,” This time you will not be ‘Putting me Down‘.”

The Mechanized Man turns slowly to face the heroes, and steps into the sunlight outside of the lab. They immediately notice the bright red widow’s peak on his skullcap and the two-tone green tunic on his torso. The robotic villain extends his arms as the begin to morph. His left arm forms a sheild like the Sentinel of Liberty’s and the Avengers look on in horror as his right hand forms an exact replica of Thor’s hammer.

“I reached into another universe and found an artificial being like myself who lacked proper motivation. A subservient AI whom I brought here and transferred my programming into his body and overwrote his own. This being’s primary function was to duplicate other’s abilities, especially super powered individuals. I believe his name was Amazo. Not that that matters now. You see Avengers, to destroy you, I shall become you!”

Leave me a comment saying "interview me."
I will ask you five questions.
Post the answers on your lj and then interview your friends!

I'll add this...if you ask me to interview you, you may go ahead and ask me three questions in your comment that I'll answer in the main post here.

My set from [info]merfilly

1. Why don't you draw more? It really is annoying to me that I don't but, I guess since Paula left I haven't had that inspiration to do so, which bothers me cause I know the last thing she would have wanted would be for me to give up My Art.
2. Favorite all time artist? George Pe'rez, Second only by a narrow margin Neal Adams. I know you probably thought my second favorite would be John Byrne... He's a close third.
3. Harder one: Favorite writer of comic books? This one is a bit harder. Um... Alan Moore, Peter David, and Joss Whedon are all top of the list.
4. Favorite country song ever? One More Day - Diamond Rio
5. Favorite rock song ever? Simple Man - Lynyrnd Skynyrd

the letter N

1. Captain Nemo: When I read Twenty thousand Leagues under the Sea and then later The Mysterious Island, I was so fasinated by the Nemo Character. I can't say exactly what drew me in, I'm sure part of it was his determination and adherence ito his beliefs. I started to list his on Merfilly's D list given that in MI he reveals himself as Prince Dakkar, but thankfully Titania gave me N. Nemo is that mysterious powerful presence with Strict coviction to himself and his beliefs. I could also list on here the Nautilus, but somehow that feels like cheating.heh heh

2.Namor: Marvel Comics. I love the regalness of this character. The writers who actually nail him in IMHO are the ones that bring out his nobility. He is Royalty and believes he is above most basic humans. The fact that he fell in love with one of those surface dwellers is even more intriguing to me.

3. Nightcrawler: the loner seeking to be one of the crowd. I think in some fashion everyone can identify with this concept. Then, you add the details of this character, his swashbuckling obsession, his ties to the circus, and his European Romani heritage, Then his possible and later confirmed relation to Mystique, and you have one of the most interesting characters in comics. On top of that you add the man who looks like a demon who is one of the most devout characters in comics, you have a very thought provoking individual.

4.Nightwing: DC Comics. My affection for this character revolves around Robin's(Dick Grayson) coming of age. This transformation came the same year I graduated High School. I identified with this character, also being a huge Superman fan I knew it was an identity that superman used in Kndor during the Silver age. Then DC dicides in the Nightwing title to connect the two. Awesome!

5.Nick Fury: Marvel Comics. Originally a competitor to Sgt. Rock at DC Comics. Sgt Fury and his Howling Commandos, I read collected stories of both. The thing that drew me into this character was when he became Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. He bacame a James Bond type Super Spy in the marvel universe. Being a big Bond Fan this was Icing on the cake.

My picks to Merfilly's meme

Letter D

1. Doctor Doom: The first Major Villian I remember really getting into. Here was the ruler of small European nation, who believed he was the rightful ruler of the world. Yes he had this Mad-On for Reed Richards but, he was so much more than that. His people loved him. They regarded him as a Just and fair ruler. Gotta love a Villian who was so Sure of himself ansd full of himself at the same time. I know some of you who know me are wondering why not Luthor? The early Luthor stories were a bit more petty on the I hate Superman because he made my hair fall out.

2: David Lopan: Big T in Little C is on the top of my list of favorite movies. Lopan was that mixture of Humor and Danger that I seem to be drawn to. I love Giffen/Maguire Justice League, Anything just about by Joss Whedon, and the list goes on and on. David Lopan was so interesting, mystic living thousands of years searching for that perfect woman only to have to sacrifice her to his god. That's an over-simplification of his story but it makes for an awesome origin.

3.Arthur Simpson Deighton (a.k.a. Arta Myrdhyn)from the book series The Guardians of the Flame: Originally introduced as a college professor and a DM. It is eventually revealed that he is an insanely powerful (and possibly powerfully insane) wizard. I loved this series. The geek in me wished something like this was actually possible. A group of gamers are somehow trasported into the Very real world of their RPG. Deighton is later discovered to be the reason for their shift in realities. I liked him for a couple of reasons, his was a combo of Arthur and Merlin. And he was gloriously insane which some would say Merlin was as well.

4.Darth Vader: Duh! I don't think I need to tell you what i like about this character. Presence,Power,Intimidation, and Ultimate Bad-ass. I speak of the Vader from episodes 4,5,&6, not the wimpy Anakin from the end of 3. The Guy reinvented the movie Villian IMHO.

5.Darkseid: This character has the same appeal to me that Vader does. The Ultimate Evil bad-ass, added to this is the Anti-Life equation. The destruction of all life which Darkseid believes if he can control this force he can control all lif in the Universe.

Above Us

just food for thought(one man's opinion which I share)

Remarks from CBS Sunday Morning (everyone should read!)

The following was written by Ben Stein and recited by him on CBS Sunday Morning
Commentary.

My confession:

I am a Jew, and every single one of my ancestors was Jewish. And it does not bother me even a little bit when people call those beautiful lit up, bejeweled trees, Christmas trees.. I don't feel threatened. I don't feel discriminated against. That's what they are: Christmas trees.

It doesn't bother me a bit when people say, 'Merry Christmas' to me. I don't think they are slighting me or getting ready to put me in a ghetto. In fact, I kind of like it It shows that we are all brothers and sisters celebrati ng this happy time of year. It doesn't bother me at all that there is a manger scene on display at a key intersection near my beach house in Malibu . If people want a crïeche, it's just as fine with me as is the Menorah a few hundred yards away.

I don't like getting pushed around for being a Jew, and I don't think Christians like getting pushed around for being Christians. I think people who believe in God are sick and tired of getting pushed around, period. I have no idea where the concept came from that America is an explicitly atheist country. I can't find it in the Constitution and I don't like it being shoved down my throat.

Or maybe I can put it another way: where did the idea come from that we should worship celebrities and we aren't allowed to worship God as we understand Him? I guess that's a sign that I'm getting old, too. But there are a lot of us who are wondering where these celebrities came from and where the America we knew went to.

just a joke

I was told this joke and laughed pretty good, so I thought I would share it. Apologies to anyone who is offended by this.

McCain and Obama go to the same barber for a shave and a haircut. They get the whole treatment. As the barber went to add the finishing touches on, He grabs thwe bottle of aftershave and reached out toward Obama. Obama stuck up his hand and said "No, no don't put that stuff on me, my wife will think i've been to a brothel" The barber then turned to McCain and McCain says "Go ahead and put it on MY wife doesn't know what the inside of a brothel smells like.".

Comic Geek Musing -Beware

I was just watching X-Men3 Last Stand.( I know, I'm sorry just bored) Anyway, the scene where Logan and Scott are having a confrontation in the hallway early in the movie, where Logan says maybe it's time we move on and Scott says Not all of us heal as fast as you do. It got me thinking, Depression is a mental illness with Physical conditions would his healing factor fight off mental as well as physical injury. I know, I know, GEEK! But that's the kind of things my mind comes up with when it stays idle for too long. heh heh

So what do you think?
